Throwback Thursday - Christmas 1987

On Christmas Eve this year I reflect on Christmases past and treasure the traditions that carry on over time.

This one might not be as prominent with e-readers, but we always got a book on Christmas.

AND we have a tradition, that if you receive a piece of clothing you have to put it on, in the order that you receive it.....

Music is always a part of the holiday

As is a fire

And stopping to admire each present in order, one at a time

And generations playing with new "toys".  (This was taken in 1981, when Chris asked for a train and got two of them, both in this picture.  The one on the left still entertains toddlers at our house.)

I don't have a picture of it, but eggs benedict on Christmas morning in our PJs is a non moveable tradition

Most of these traditions have been around since I was born

AND What has changed / what traditions have we added:

  • Christmas Eve service is a must
  • We have scaled back and just give stocking presents or a few small presents
  • Celebrating at another time with extended families.  In January we have our third annual Russell/Lowe/Swartzbaugh Christmas in Vermont with Bob and Linda Russell, Chris Meg and Zuzu Swartzbaugh, Bryan and Bethany Russell-Lowe and Sally Russell and Rodney Lowe.
